Applied behavior analysis (ABA) continues to play an important role in advancing effective and practical supports in schools. This session will consolidate findings from a series of research projects addressing school-based strategies across the three tiers of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). At Tier 1, we will review strategies for arranging classroom environments to promote engagement and prevent challenging behavior, including the use of classroom observation tools and modifications to seating arrangements. At Tier 2, we will examine evidence for self-monitoring interventions for students with ADHD and autism spectrum disorder, highlighting ways to build independence and academic productivity. At Tier 3, we will explore research on the use of trial-based functional analyses (TBFAs) in school settings, with recommendations for efficient assessment and intervention design. In addition, the presentation will feature applied research on the Good Behavior Game and its impact on classroom climate, as well as practical considerations for integrating ABA practices within existing school systems.
Participants will gain an integrated perspective on how behavior analytic assessment and intervention can be embedded across tiers of support, along with specific recommendations for practice. Through synthesis of research studies and ongoing projects, attendees will leave with strategies to improve classroom management, increase student success, and enhance collaboration with educators within multi-tiered systems of support.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify evidence-based strategies for arranging classroom environments to support positive student outcomes.
- Describe the use of self-monitoring interventions to support students with ADHD and autism in school contexts.
- Discuss ways the Good Behavior Game and other Tier 1 strategies can be integrated into PBIS frameworks.
About the Presenter
Great presentation for those in the school setting as well as other settings to get a broader understanding
Having been both a Special Education teacher and an administrator I believe the information in this training can be a make or break for people entering the academic setting. This information can change the student's year and yours as well. Could quite possibly make you less likely to pray the year would just end or that you could just get home to your favorite adult beverage. This can help you love being in the school setting and help the students want to learn. Noone likes to be in trouble everyday. Better implementation makes for better behavior, increased progress, and happier students and staff.
Very useful for my daily practice as a BCBA.
This was one of the most useful and applicable presentations I have seen in a really long time. A must see for anyone consulting in or working with school districts.
This course provided wonderful and helpful information to me as a BCBA consulting within school districts. I will be sharing with my colleagues. Great presenter!
This training was the most informative and helpful training I’ve done in a very long time. The material made sense, it was engaging, and there was research to support what was shared.
Although the audio was a bit glitchy, this was an excellent presentation on ABA in the school setting. I appreciated the overview and discussion of Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions and the inclusion of suggestions and tools for consultation.
This training was very well organized. The presenter also included resources that could be used for future implementation. The presentation was also interactive as it had surveys and quizzes throughout the presentation to remain engaged.
I really enjoyed this training as a school based BCBA. I sometimes feel like I'm on an island. Teachers are asking for help for specific student behavior and this was a great reminder that we can't fix tier 1 problems with tier 2 interventions.
I loved the topic of this training and the helpful resources and links provided at the end and throughout the presentation. However, I did notice many auditory glitches within the presentation which were distracting when trying to listen to the speaker.
