FAQ May 14th, 2026

Flowers blooming, classes dismissing, breaking from the norm for a while... So many new distractions coming from all angles! It's easy to get lost in the shuffle.

The May FAQ answers the question of wellbeing as a priority, and how it factors in when writing plans for behavior change:

How do I create programs that maximize my client's wellbeing?

People with neurodevelopmental disability may have deficits in communication, adaptive behavior, socialization, self-care, and play and leisure.

Traumatic experience(s) during childhood can worsen these deficits while also creating uniquely new challenges. As a result, clients may present with a history of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES) as well.

Rick Gutierrez joined Behavior University for a recent webinar, Prioritizing Wellbeing For People With Neurodevelopmental Disability.

The presentation highlighted factors to be considered when planning for trauma-informed care:

  • Supportive, stable relationships
  • Predictable, structured environments
  • Choices & empowerment
  • Trauma-informed care
  • Communication supports
  • Emotional & physiological regulation supports
The extent to which you are able to support your own wellbeing is going to position you to be more effective at supporting the wellbeing of other people.
